Aesthetic-Usability Effect for #thursdaytheory Campaign

Aesthetic-usability. Not to be confused with simplicity. I find this effect especially dominant in children’s literature. I take my daughter Bishop to the library every 3 weeks. I went from picking out books by the pile, not looking at the pictures, words or even the cover – to auditing each individual book with a quick review of its images, the colours used, and most importantly…reading a couple of lines on every other page to evaluate choice of vocabulary and complexity. For me, a more beautiful design melds effective & vibrant imagery with well-composed and interesting content. The effect becomes so dominant, that I can pick out 15 books in about 10 minutes, and they’re a hit!
