Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Chona received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours degree in Printmaking, Painting & Art Theory from the University of Calgary in 2002. After graduating, she focused on establishing herself as an independent commercial artist.
Between 2002 and 2005, Chona launched a creative agency called Bubbles + Blocks. She operated an art gallery from her home while collaborating with local businesses such as The Hi-Fi Club and the snowboarding apparel company Snowspeeders (now Somewon Collective).
In 2006, Chona relocated to British Columbia to study Foundational Graphic Design at The Art Institute of Vancouver. By 2008, she had secured a position at Bell Mobility, where she gained invaluable experience in customer service, account management, and sales over a decade-long tenure. As a Corporate Account Manager, she handled accounts in the medium and enterprise business segments, serving notable clients such as Enbridge Inc., Aritzia, and TC Energy. Her efforts in account management and business solutions were pivotal in fostering customer relationships and driving results. At Bell, she also proudly represented the “Let’s Talk” mental health initiative, promoting workplace health and well-being for the telecommunications giant.
After leaving Bell in 2018, Chona re-launched her creative career, joining VanWhistle Media, where she contributed to building the startup’s brand identity and marketing strategies. From 2019 to 2022, she expanded her marketing expertise at i-Open Technologies Group of Companies and Clearbridge Business Solutions, leading geospatial technology and IT services-based projects. At i-Open, Chona was pivotal in launching a direct-to-consumer loyalty program for Directfood.store that increased sales by 30%. She was also the Brand Manager for the Group’s agtech-driven platform, Agrilyze, working tenaciously to build its educational USP by collaborating with non-profit organizations such as BCAC and BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation. While at Clearbridge, she improved customer outreach and retention through strategic marketing initiatives, including creating an organizational ‘playbook’ to inspire and engage the team.
In 2022, Chona took on the role of Marketing Coordinator/Team Lead at Longboard Architectural Products. During her time there, she developed and implemented a multifaceted marketing strategy called the 9-Point Channel Strategy, which resulted in a 600% increase in social media engagement within just four months and an impressive 60% email open rate, outperforming industry standards by 40%. Chona led market research and brand initiatives that contributed to the successful launch of a new sustainable residential product line. Her strategic insights helped expand market segmentation, increase sales enablement and brand awareness, and solidify Longboard’s competitive edge in the architectural world.
In 2024, Chona joined Delta Water Products as the Marketing Manager, leading the company’s rebranding efforts and implementing her comprehensive 9-Point Channel Strategy. This strategy resulted in a 35% increase in customer engagement across multiple channels and generated $25M in new sales opportunities. She also spearheaded cross-functional collaboration, strengthened partnerships, and enhanced the Group’s brand presence in the marketplace. She shares her insights here:
Marketing is a three-step process:
– You need to be able to understand your audience and marketplace.
– You need to be both creative and technical and apply these skills in a targeted manner.
– And finally, you must, and I repeat must, focus on data-driven and agile methods that can be tracked, analyzed, and future-proofed for greater ROI.I help companies of all shapes and sizes build the proper foundation by implementing a multifaceted approach I developed called the 9-Point Channel Strategy.
It is a comprehensive approach to channel marketing. It leverages traditional and digital channels to help better position your brand in the marketplace and effectively reach your target audience.
This dynamic system informs the execution of your tasks, projects, and campaigns. The Strategy also involves continuous budgetary and performance tracking and optimization to ensure that marketing efforts remain effective and adaptable to changing market conditions and industry trends.
The goal is to consistently deliver value and foster trust through intentionality so you can drive more awareness, attract more customers, and build your brand. Ultimately, you want to develop solid and lasting relationships, improve customer loyalty, and increase sales.
Integrating these elements into the 9-Point Channel Strategy allows you to achieve your marketing goals while aligning your work with your broader mission, vision, and values, reinforcing your brand identity and competitive market position.
